| How to Write Effective Links The key to writing effective links is to
include your most important keywords in the "Anchor
Text". Why is it so important to use keywords in your anchor text? For two reasons; first, because search engines such as Google view the anchor text of incoming links pointing to your website as one of the most reliable means of assessing what your website is about, and therefore it has a major effect on your search engine rankings for your keywords, and second, because humans also rely on the anchor text of the link to know what the site the link points to is about. As an example, say the name of your company is Altair Bureau and it sells translation services. You could use the name of the company as the anchor text for your link so that the link would appear as Altair Bureau, but without knowing what Altair Bureau sells, why would anyone click on this link? Better alternatives would be Altair Russian Translation Bureau or just Russian Translation Bureau. Since search engines cannot read text contained in graphics, you should not use buttons, banners, or other types of graphics for your links, when an object is to improve your search engine rankings. |
